HBO’s sister channel Cinemax has really turned a corner in recent years with critically acclaimed dramas like Banshee and The Knick, and it now sounds like they’ll be taking a crack at one of George R.R. Martin’s other novels as the author has revealed that Skin Trade (which has been described as an “offbeat werewolf noir”) has been given a pilot script order.

There’s nothing to say that it’s going to happen at this stage, but just like Martin helped to reignite fantasy on television, this adaptation could do the same thing for werewolves.

“To handle the adaptation, script the pilot, and produce the show (should we get a greenlight),” Martin explained, “we’ve tapped a terrific talented young scriptwriter named Kalinda Vazquez, whose previous credits include work on Prison Break and Once Upon A Time. That was not an easy choice. Cinemax and my agents set me up for meetings with close to a dozen different TV writers, many of them very impressive, but Kalinda’s take on the story and the characters blew me away. She loves the story and the world, and really seems to get Willie and Randi, and her pitch to Cinemax was one of the most polished and professional I’ve ever heard. I love her enthusiasm, and look forward to working with her.”

He went on to explain that while he would have love to write the script for Skin Trade himself, he has to crack on with the next Game of Thrones novel, something which is sure to come as a relief to impatient fans sick of waiting for that to finally be released by Martin!

It will be interesting to see how Skin Trades comes together. As well as a novel, it’s also been adapted into a comic book, and definitely has a ton of potential on the small screen!
