Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot is set to star in Kenneth Branagh’s follow-up to Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile.

Gadot will play the role of the rich heiress who steals her best friend’s man, Linnet Ridgeway Doyle. Doyle is also the main victim in the story. Branagh return’s to the role of detective Hercule Poirot. So far, Gadot is the only announced member of the film’s cast alongside Branagh.

The story focuses on the honeymoon on a cruise down the Nile. Things become a bit complicated by the fact many of those onboard have a motive to kill her. Things get even more complicated when some of the suspects themselves start to be knocked off.

The Agatha Christie novel was first adapted for the big screen in 1978. Directed by John Guillermin, the film starred  Peter Ustinov as Poirot, plus an all-star supporting cast which included Maggie Smith, Angela Lansbury, Bette Davis, Mia Farrow, David Niven and George Kennedy. The film took place in Egypt in 1937, mostly on a period paddle steamer on the Nile River. Many of the cultural highlights of Egypt are also featured in the film. It went on to win an Academy Award at the 51st Academy Awards for Best Costume Design.

Judy Hofflund, Simon Kinberg, Ridley Scott, Kevin Walsh and Mark Gordon are producing the newest version which is slated for a December 20th 2019 release.
