Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy came to an incredible finish this summer with the release of The Dark Knight Rises. And with the Oscar season very much on the horizon, Warner Bros. have launched their campaign for the final instalment in Nolan’s trilogy, alongside Ben Affleck’s Argo, the Wachowski siblings’ and Tom Tykwer’s Cloud Atlas, Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike.
Nolan’s final instalment entered the $1bn. club this summer, and has personally been one of my favourite films of the year by a long shot, earning a place on my favourite films of all time.
Naturally, the studios are all gearing up their campaigns for the coming awards season, and though some of the categories that Warner Bros. are aiming for here are more than a little bit hopeful, we could well see The Dark Knight Rises earn a spot in more than one when the nominations are officially announced in January.
Hans Zimmer’s score, for example, is truly remarkable, and I think is going to be a very strong contender in the coming months.
The official awards campaign website also comes with a handful of images, as well as a list of screenings for Guild Members – the final of which falls on Christmas Day, which sounds like a rather immense way to spend the holiday to me.
Christian Bale leads an all-star cast for his final outing as the Caped Crusader, alongside Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Morgan Freeman, and Marion Cotillard, all of whom are in the list for consideration below.
Nolan directs from a script he penned with brother Jonathan Nolan, based on a story the director wrote with David S. Goyer.
The Dark Knight Rises will be released on DVD/Blu-ray on 3rd December in the UK and 4th December in the US, just in time for Christmas, and I for one cannot wait to see the epic conclusion again.
