In this interview Linda Marric sits down with acclaimed director and all round good egg John Carney to talk about his latest film, Flora and Son. The AppleTV+ film stars Eve Hewson, Orén Kinlan and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. We talk about the film’s process to the big screen, and how his cast came together.

Plot:

Single mom Flora (Eve Hewson) is at a loss about what to do with her
rebellious teenage son, Max (Orén Kinlan). Encouraged by the police to find
Max a hobby, Flora tries to occupy him with a beat-up acoustic
guitar. When Max quickly dismisses the instrument, Flora takes up online
guitar lessons with Jack (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a washed-up LA musician.
Jack opens Flora’s eyes to the transformative power of music, which may
ultimately become the key to reconnecting Flora and Max. From the musical
mind of John Carney, “Flora and Son” explores the bond between a mother and
son on a journey toward a new harmony.

The film will be released in select cinemas in Ireland on the 22nd Sept and then has a wider release in the UK and on Apple TV+ on the 29th Sept.
