A24 Films and DirecTV have today released the first trailer and poster for Slow West, writer John Maclean’s directorial debut which is set at the end of the 19th Century. The movie follows 16-year-old Jay Cavendish (Kodi Smit-McPhee) as he journeys across the American frontier in search of the woman he loves. He’s joined by Silas (Michael Fassbender), a mysterious traveller, and hotly pursued by an outlaw along the way.

Reviews from Sundance were good, with critics praising the mixture of drama and comedy as well as a powerful third act. Slow West also stars Ben Mendelsohn, Caren Pistorious, and Rory McCann. It’s set to be released in cinemas and on iTunes on May 15th in the US, but there’s currently no word on a UK debut.

Michael Fassbender has a very busy couple of years ahead of him with Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs biopic, X-Men: Apocalypse, and a big screen adaptation of his video game franchise Assassin’s Creed all in the works.

This trailer certainly gives us a better idea what to expect from Slow West, and we’ll hopefully have news on a UK release date for you soon. Fassbender worked with Maclean on the shorts Man On A Motorcycle and Pitch Black Heist. Also below is the first poster for the movie, so click on that for a larger version.
