The feature film debut of Joe Cornish, Attack the Block is set for UK release on the 8th of April next year and the fine folks at Optimum have just released the first official still from the film. I suspect that the still released probably gives a very good sense of the film which blends a South London setting with a science fiction plot.

Attack the Block comes with the tagline “Inner City Versus Outer Space” and an official blurb that describes it as “a fast funny, frightening action adventure movie that pits a teen gang against an invasion of savage alien monsters. It turns a London tower block into a fortress under siege, and a weapon wielding teenage thugs into heroes.”

The film stars Nick Frost, Jodie Whittaker and Luke Treadaway and features effects work by Double Negative.

Cornish is probably best known for his work with television and radio partner Adam Buxton but in addition to this first foray into feature film directing he also worked on the screenplay for Spielberg’s forthcoming Tintin film.
