Following the release of the first poster for Logan yesterday, James Mangold has shared a first look at Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier in the movie. Needless to say, he looks quite a bit different to the Professor X of old, but there may be a reason for that.

According to a story published by The Wrap last night, his powers have grown increasingly unstable and he doesn’t even remember Logan at times. In other words, it sounds like he may have dementia, and that could be dangerous for the world’s most powerful psychic.

The trade also reveals that Wolverine is now an alcoholic, he’s sick, and his powers are beginning to fade/sometimes not work at all. The girl in the poster is described as being a young mutant who has two claws, and fans of the comic books will know that description lines up with X-23. In 2024, mutant births have plummeted and a new government type operation called “Transigen” is said to be turning young mutants into “killing machines.”

It’s quickly becoming clear that Logan is going to be unlike any other X-Men or Wolverine movie to date, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. With more expected to be revealed over the next couple of weeks, stay tuned for much more on James Mangold’s Logan…
