After getting the first photos of the set of Quentin Tarantino’s highly-anticipated Django Unchained earlier this year, we now have a great first photo from the set of one of the cast members themselves, giving us a look at Christoph Waltz as Dr. King Schultz.

Waltz’s last turn under Tarantino’s direction won him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Inglourious Basterds, so naturally his return to work with the brilliant writer-director is something to look forward to.

Along with Waltz, Django Unchained will star Jamie Foxx as the eponymous Django, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington, Sacha Baron Cohen, Anthony LaPaglia, RZA, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (provided he can fit it into his schedule, which we’re all hoping he can).

Foxx’s Django is,

“a slave who’s liberated by a German dentist-turned-bounty hunter (Waltz) and taught the tricks of the trade by his mentor. Django’s major goal in life is to recover his wife, and to do it he needs to get past the villainous ranch owner Calvin Candie (DiCaprio), who runs Candyland, a despicable club and plantation in Mississippi where female slaves are exploited as sex objects and males are pitted against each other in “mandingo”-style death matches. Candie is a slave’s worst nightmare, and that is where Django’s wife Broomhilda (Washington) is an abused slave.”

It sounds like it’s going to be another Tarantino epic.

Django Unchained will be released on Christmas Day in the US, putting it in perfect position for a run at the 2013 Academy Awards. Here in the UK, we’ll have to wait a little longer, with its release set for 18th January next year. I can’t wait. As usual, you can click the image below to enlarge.
