Following our first look at Tom Cruise in the upcoming Jack Reacher adaptation this week, the first international trailer has hit the web and is everything you’d expect: Fast cars, explosive action, and Tom Cruise taking names.

He may not be 6’5”, but he knows how to kick some serious butt and look good doing it, and I think that’s why Lee Child thought he was the right man for the job – that, and he’s probably one of the best known actors in the world.

Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) adapts Child’s novel, One Shot, which the film was previously called, and has a fine supporting cast starring alongside Cruise, headed up by Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, David Oyelowo, Robert Duvall, and Werner Herzog.

From Waterstones, the original novel’s synopsis looks a little like this:

“A lone gunman unleashes pandemonium when he shoots into a crowd of people in a public plaza in Indiana. Five people are killed in cold blood, shot through the head. But he leaves a perfect trail of evidence behind him, and soon the local police chief tracks him down. After his arrest, the shooter’s only words are, ‘Get Jack Reacher for me.’ What could possibly connect this psychopath and the wandering dropout ex army cop? Critics call Lee Child’s thriller series ‘addictive’, so here is our annual, much-longed for, Reacher fix.”

The English language trailer is expected to hit very soon this week, but until then, you can hit the CC button below to get subtitles up in English.

Jack Reacher will be released on 21st December in the US, and will come slightly later to our shores for a 28th December release here in the UK – the same weekend that Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was released last year, and we know how immensely well that did.
