‘Don’t Breath’ helmer, Fede Alvarez has signed up to direct a new instalment in the ‘Alien’ franchise.

Alvarez will also pen the original stand-alone feature for 20th Century Studios. Ridley Scott, who directed the original film back in 1979 will serve as a producer on the project. Produced via his Scott Free banner, the project is intended to be made for Hulu as part of 20th Century’s ambitions to make more than 10 movies a year for the Disney-operated streaming service.

Sources have confirmed that the new project is unconnected to the rest of the films in the franchise but all other plots are being kept under wraps.

After Alvarez pitched the idea the story to Scott, 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell said “really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before”.

Alvarez’ previous work includes writing and directing the ‘Evil Dead’ remake and co-writing and producing Netflix’s remake of ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre.’ He made his mark with the critical success of the thriller ‘Don’t Breathe,’ a story he co-wrote and directed.
