Fast & Furious 7 is already closing in on $400 million worldwide, and you have to imagine that James Wan is now a director very much in demand as studios look to capture that same sort of success. While the movie was always guaranteed to be a hit regardless of who was at the helm, bear in mind reviews have been great.

A commitment to the eighth instalment in the franchise might pose a problem, but Wan has still emerged as the frontrunner to direct DC Comics adaptation Aquaman for Warner Bros. Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad are still writing two separate scripts for the project, but this is a good sign that it’s started moving ahead.

Wonder Woman has already gained a director in the form of Michelle MacLaren, while we told you earlier today about Phil Lord and Christopher Miller writing a treatment for The Flash. Find more on that here.

Wan was best known for his horror movies before taking on Fast & Furious 7, and his credits include Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring. He’s set to direct The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist later this year.

Aquaman will star Jason Momoa and is set to be released on July 27th, 2018. The character will be seen before then in both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League Part One. Aquaman won’t be an easy character to get right, so hopefully Zack Snyder leaves Wan with a good starting point for the hero.
