Fast-and-Furious-6-PosterFast and Furious 6 is undeniably my most anticipated movie of next month*, beating out strong competition from the likes of Star Trek Into Darkness and The Hangover Part III.

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker return to the fold for the next instalment in the franchise, following its brilliant reenergised form in recent years with Fast and Furious and Fast Five.

The first full-length trailer debuted back in February, coming just after Universal launched it at one of the biggest sporting events of the year with a Super Bowl TV Spot. And now franchise-returner Michelle Rodriguez has debuted the latest poster for the film.

Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

Diesel, Walker, and Rodriguez are joined by another awesome ensemble, led by Jordana Brewster, Dwayne Johnson, Luke Evans, Joe Taslim, Tyrese Gibson, Gina Carano, Gal Gadot, Elsa Pataky, and Sung Kang.

Justin Lin is behind the camera again for Fast and Furious 6, having helmed the previous three entries in the series. And he’s directing from a script by Chris Morgan, who’s penned the scripts for all of Lin’s entries.

Fast and Furious 6 will be hitting regular and IMAX theatres on May 24th in the  US, arriving a day early in the UK on 23rd May, which puts it in direct competition with The Hangover Part III and Epic that weekend. It looks set to be one of the biggest weekends of the year at the box office, and I’m really hoping that Lin’s blockbuster will close out on top.

*I must admit, I can happily stand by this statement in large part due to the fact that Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 will be arriving in the UK a week earlier than the US, making it an April blockbuster on our shores.
