Premiering at TIFF this month to largely very positive reviews – you can read our review here – Cloud Atlas will be coming to theatres and IMAX screens at the end of next month, and is sure to be a strong contender in a handful of categories in the coming awards season.

The film is a real triumph for its trio of directors, Lana Wachowski, Tom Tykwer, and Andy Wachowski, adapting David Mitchell’s acclaimed novel, and after the incredible first trailer landed back in the summer, followed by a rather wonderful first poster, Warner Bros. have released the first three TV spots, with plenty of brilliant and impressive footage.

““Cloud Atlas” explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future.”

The impeccable cast is led by Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon, and Hugh Grant, with each taking multiple roles across its different storylines, traversing time and space.

I caught the film’s world premiere at Toronto and thought it was brilliant, and cannot wait to see it again. Sturgess is really the stand-out for me amongst all of the cast, along with Bae and Whishaw, and I’ve been wanting to see them take on all of their roles again since the credits rolled. I think Sturgess is going to be making waves here with his performance.

Cloud Atlas will be released in regular and IMAX theatres in the US on 26th October. Alas, here in the UK, we’ll have to wait until the New Year to see it on our shores, but it is very much well worth the wait. Somewhat divisive cinema, certainly, but I’m on the side that thinks it’s a strong blockbuster. Here are the first TV spots, the first of which quotes a handful of critics who agree. Enjoy.
