Being described as one of the best action films in years, Gareth Evans’ Indonesian actioner The Raid took the People’s Choice Award in the Midnight Madness section of last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and has been picking up a brilliant reception ever since.

Jamie caught the film at the Glasgow Film Festival this month and loved it, and you can read his five-star review of the film right here.

An awesome new trailer for the film has now surfaced, courtesy of Yahoo Movies, ahead of its release in the US next month.

“Rama, a member of a special forces team, arrives at a rundown apartment block with a mission to remove its owner, a notorious drug lord. The building has become a sanctuary to killers, gangs, rapists and thieves seeking accommodation in the one place they know they cannot be touched by the police. When a spotter blows their cover, Rama [Iko Uwais] and his team must fight their way through every floor and every room not just to complete their mission but to survive their bloody ordeal.”

Because the trailer’s green-band, it’s a little less explicit than the first red-band trailer we saw a few months ago, but is every bit as awesome, showing plenty of action as well as a bit more back-story that we didn’t get in the first.

Writer-director Evans already has the sequel to The Raid, Berandal, in the works, and on top of that there’s also a US remake in development as well, so essentially The Raid is definitely one to watch out for, having become an instant hot property after its Toronto debut. And as if that wasn’t enough, Mike Shinoda (of Linkin Park/Fort Minor) was hired after its Toronto debut to compose the film’s score with Joseph Trapanese (TRON: Legacy) for its international release, which means it’s going to have an amazing soundtrack too.

If you’re in the US, you can look forward to seeing The Raid, which the new trailer titles The Raid: Redemption, on 23rd March, and then it’ll be coming to the UK on 18th May. I can’t wait; it looks more than a little bit immense.
