‘Widows’ and ‘Tenet’ actress Elizabeth Debicki has been chosen to take on the sacred role of the beloved Princess Diana in the fourth and fifth seasons of Netflix series ‘The Crown’.

Debicki joins the recently cast, Jonathan Pryce, who takes over the role of Prince Philip from the current incumbent Tobia Menzies, Matt Smith played the role in the first two seasons.

Imelda Staunton has already been confirmed to take over the role as Queen Elizabeth II from Olivia Colman in the fifth and final series whilst Lesley Manville will take over the role of Princess Margaret from Helena Bonham Carter.

In a statement released via Twitter, Debicki stated; “Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one,”

Set in the 1990s and 2000s, seasons 5 and 6 will deal with the breakdown of three of her children’s marriages, a fire at Windsor Castle, and the deaths of Princess Margaret, the Queen Mother and the Princess of Wales.

Filming is due to commence mid-2021, with the fifth season set for a premiere in 2022.
