‘Phantom Thread’ actress Lesley Manville has been cast to play Princess Margaret in the next chapter of Netflix series ‘The Crown’.

Manville will take over the role from the current incumbent Helena Bonham Carter, who took over from Vanessa Kirby who played the role in the first 2 seasons.

On landing the role Manville said; “I could not be happier to be playing Princess Margaret,” The baton is being passed on from two formidable actresses and I really don’t want to let the side down. Furthermore to play siblings with my dear friend Imelda Staunton will be nothing short of a complete joy.”

Imelda Staunton has already been confirmed to take over the role as Queen Elizabeth II from Olivia Colman in the fifth and final series which is due to start filming in 2021.

Since being nominated for supporting actress for ‘Phantom Thread’ at the Oscars and the BAFTA’s, Manville has gone on to star in ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’ and ‘Misbehaviour’. On the small screen, she has starred in the series ‘Save Me’ and narrates the show ‘Love Life’
