Excellent news for fans of Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut Whip It as THR are reporting that following her next film, the New York based rom-com How to be Single, she will reunite with writer Shauna Cross who is adapting the novel Heist Society by Ally Carter.
The book tells the story of Katrina Bishop who leaves her family and their criminal lifestyle behind only to be pulled back in when her father is named as the cheif suspect in the heist of dangerous mobster’s priceless art collection. She assembles a team to steal back the paintings and save her father.
THR have the main character in her early 20s so perhaps Whip It star Ellen Page will be getting a call?
Barrymore’s first film proved her directing capability, though her strong cast and an excellent script from Cross certainly helped, and I’m hoping that Heist Society is more of an edgy affair than the formulaic How to be Single seems to be.
