Tom Cruise collaborator and Edge of Tomorrow helmer, Doug Liman has entered talks to take the directors chair in a new Cannonball Run remake.
The remake would be Liman’s next film; he is currently working on Choas Walking which stars Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley, which is due for release early in 2019.
Warner Bros were negotiating with Central Intelligence’s Rawson Thurber last year to take the helm but that seems to have fallen through. Cannonball Run franchise and Reno 911 stars Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant were in talks to pen the script. Andre Morgan and Alan Gasmer are producing the movie.

The original film was released back in 1981, directed by Hal Needham it had an all-star lead cast of Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore, Dom DeLuise and Farrah Fawcett. It also starred the likes of Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Jackie Chan, Peter Fonda and many more.
It focuses on a number of contestants in a cross-country car race from Connecticut to California. It includes a speed-loving racing driver disguised as an ambulance driver and his dimwitted sidekick, a pair of Ferrari-driving priests, and a James Bond-type character kitted out with secret weapons. The franchise went on to produce three more films.
Liman is best known for his involvement with the Bourne franchise, Having directed The Bourne Identity and having executive produced both Ultimatum and Jason Bourne. Last year, he teamed up with Tom Cruise on the based on a true story tale of Barry Seal in American Made. He also directed American War thriller, The Wall which starred Aaron Taylor-Johnson and John Cena.
