It seems that Disney is finally catching on to the idea that commercial success can hinge on the older demographics.

It started with Almost Alice, which featured songs from the likes of Fall Out Boy, Owl City, All Time Low and more.  The album was released alongside of their Alice In Wonderland reboot  and not only did it generate quite a bit of fervor over the movie itself, but it also managed to reach the #1 spot on the Billboard Rock and Alternative charts.

Disney is apparently hoping to duplicate last years success story with the release of Muppets: The Green Album.  The album,  which will be released 3 months prior to the The Muppets, will include a host of Muppets songs as interpreted by various mainstream and indie artists.  Whereas Almost Alice seemed to be targeting the teen demographic, The Green Album‘s roster implies that this time they are instead targeting the 20-somethings.  This comes as no surprise since the movie has already been cast like a Judd Apatow flick.

Overall I have to say the lineup looks pretty awesome.  Some of the highlights include indie jam icons My Morning Jacket doing “Our World”, Norwegian pop sensation Sondre Lerche doing “Mr. Bassman”, and even a team up between Weezer and Hayley Williams (Paramore) on the classic “Rainbow Connection”.  However don’t think that Disney has forgotten about its teen audiences!  The album also features an unlikely pairing of Brandon Saller (Atreyu), and Billy Martin (Good Charlotte), as well as appearances by OK Go,  Amy Lee (Evanescence), and The Airborne Toxic Event.

The album is set for release on August 23rd on Walt Disney Records but you can listen to OK Go cover the iconic Muppet Show Theme Song right now by clicking here.
