Back in 2004, a script from Paul Haggis was sold to New Line. Vince Vaughn and Jack Nicholson signed up for the lead roles, and Paul Haggis himself was set to direct. Unfortunately, due to financing, production fell through.

Fast-forward six years and The Playlist are reporting that Jonathan Demme (The Manchurian Candidate, Rachel Getting Married) is now attached to direct Haggis’ script, now titled Honeymoon With Harry, with Robert De Niro (The Good Shepherd) and Bradley Cooper (The A-Team) officially secured as the central leads.

Synopsis: Honeymoon With Harry centres on an alcoholic (Cooper), who reforms his ways after falling in love with a girl, only to relapse after she dies shortly before their wedding. Drowning his sorrows on what would have been their honeymoon, he crosses paths with her father (De Niro), who is there to scatter his daughter’s ashes on her favorite beach.

The plot sounds solid, and Demme’s career is on a high after the much-acclaimed Rachel Getting Married, therefore Honeymoon With Harry could turn out to be an emotionally-charged drama, showcasing it’s two male lead’s underrated (in Cooper’s case) acting talent.

Production is likely to start once Cooper’s finished production on The Hangover 2, which is scheduled to commence in the Autumn.
