Christina Ricci – best known for her role as Wednesday Addams in the 90s’ version of the ‘The Addams Family’ – will be returning to the franchise in Tom Burton’s live-action series.

Ricci is said to be taking on a completely new role in the series and not an older version of Wednesday. No other details of her role have been disclosed. It is thought that Ricci will take on a similar character previously left open by Thora Birch after she quit the production.

Ricci joins Catherine Zeta-Jones who takes on the role of Morticia Addams, Jenna Ortega, will portray the titular role of Wednesday Addams and the recently cast Luis Guzman who takes on the role of Morticia’s husband, Gomez Addams.

Tim Burton will direct the series which is described as a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. She attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.

The young adult TV series is created by Al Gough and Miles Millar who will also serve as showrunners and executive producers alongside Burton. Andrew Mittman for 1.21, Kevin Miserocchi of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman for Glickmania, and Gail Berman. Mittman, Berman, and Miserocchi will also serve as executive producers.
