Marvel Studios have released some brand new stills from James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, putting the spotlight on Jurassic World star Chris Pratt as the leader of the quirky team, Star-Lord.

There’s already been talk of each of the Guardians of the Galaxy (Zoe Saldana’s Gamora, Dave Bautista’s Drax, and the double team of Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Racoon and Vin Diesel’s Groot) getting their own spin-off movies, but Star-Lord seems by far the most logical of choices if it does come to that.

The character is even getting his own Marvel Comics series this July – The Legendary Star-Lord – and has appeared by himself a fair few times in the past as well, so there’s plenty of material for them to mine!

While these images don’t reveal an awful lot about the movie, there’s no denying that the Parks & Recreation star has seemingly taken to the role of a superhero very quickly, and his take on the fan favourite character is a big part of why Guardians of the Galaxy is one of 2014’s most highly anticipated blockbusters.

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio del Toro, Guardians of the Galaxy is set to be released on August 1st.
