A reboot/remake of the classic 1980s comedy series starring Chevy Chase is on the way, and it has been revealed that New Line are now in talks with Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Charlie Day (Pacific Rim) for roles in the project (which will seemingly serve as a very loose sequel as well).

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein wrote the script and will also make their directorial debut.

Ed Helms (The Hangover) is set to play Rusty Griswold, the son of the original series’ lead Clark Griswold (played by Chase). Vacation will see Rusty take his family on a road trip just the like one he took with his sister and parents as a younger. Christina Applegate (Anchorman) is attached to play his wife.

Both Chase and Beverly D’Angelo will cameo in the Vacation reboot, giving it a tie to the original. Hemworth – who it’s said is keen on adding a comedy to his very impressive résumé – will play Stone Crandall, an up-and-coming anchorman and the husband of Rusty’s sister, Audrey (who has not yet been cast).

Day meanwhile will have a much smaller role as a river-rafting guide. It’s described as a cameo.

Hemsworth has a number of projects in the pipeline outside of Marvel, including Blackhat and In the Heart of the Sea. Day meanwhile will next be seen in Horrible Bosses 2 later this year.
