Robert-Downey-Jr.-and-Jon-FavreauHaving worked together frequently over the years since 2008’s game-changing Iron Man, Robert Downey, Jr. and Jon Favreau are set to reunite once more for the latter’s independent comedy, Chef.

The project is being presented at Cannes this week, and Variety reports that Downey, Jr. has come on board to star alongside his Iron Man director and co-star.

Favreau will be taking the lead as a man who loses his job as a chef, and then sets up a food truck to reclaim his artistic promise as well as his estranged family.

He’ll be directing from his own script, something he hasn’t done since 2001’s Made, and will be producing alongside Karen Gilchrist (Cowboys & Aliens) and Sergei Bespalov (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For).

Said Favreau of the film,

“Setting a film in the culinary world of Los Angeles offers wonderful opportunities for a character driven comedy.”

Sofía Vergara, John Leguizamo, and Bobby Cannavale are attached to star in the project as well, making for a brilliant leading cast.

Favreau has shown many times over how great he is working with Downey, Jr., first directing and starring alongside him in Iron Man, and then following it up two years later with Iron Man 2. He remained on The Avengers as an executive producer, and was back on screen opposite him in Shane Black’s Iron Man 3.

Needless to say, the two have clearly developed a great working relationship, and seeing them reunite for Chef is definitely something we’re already looking forward to.

Cowboys & Aliens was Favreau’s last feature behind the camera back in 2011, and it’s going to be a lot of fun seeing him change tack a little with an independent project like this.

Production is expected to begin on July 8th in Los Angeles, and with such talent surrounding the project on all sides, there’s a very good chance that Chef will be getting some major buzz at Cannes in the coming days.
