Charlie Hunnam is teaming up with Mel Gibson to star British filmmaker Tim Kirkby’s action-thriller ‘Waldo’.

Based on the novel ‘Last Looks’ by Howard Gould, the film will see Hunnam play the role of the disgraced former LAPD detective, Charlie Waldo. Also joining the cast is ‘Baby Driver’s’ Eiza Gonzalez. Gonzalez and Gibson’s characters have yet to be revealed.

The film follows a new hero in disgraced former LAPD detective Charlie Waldo (Hunnam), currently living the life of a minimalist in the woods. His quiet life comes to a startling halt when he is roped back into working as a private eye to investigate the murder of an eccentric TV star’s wife.

Kirby – who is better known for directing episodes of ‘Veep’ and the pilot for ‘Fleabag’ will be taking the helm. Andrew Lazar, Christina Weiss Lurie and Steve Shainberg will produce.

Filming is set to commence in the first three months of 2019.

Gonzalez was last seen in Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver. Her upcoming projects include ‘Welcome to Marwen’ opposite Steve Carell and Lesley Mann and ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ with Jennifer Connelly.

Gibson was last seen in ‘Daddy’s Home 2’. He will next be seen in S. Craig Zahler’s ‘Dragged Across Concrete’, ‘The Professor and the Madman’ as the Oxford English Dictionary author, James Murray and ‘Boss Level’ with Naomi Watts.

Hunnam’s most recent projects included Guy Ritchie’s ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’ and ‘Papillion’. His upcoming films include Sam Taylor-Johnson’s ‘A Million Little Pieces opposite Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Juliette Lewis and J.C. Chandor’s ‘Triple Frontier’ with Ben Affleck and Oscar Isaac.
