Chris-Evans-in-Captain-America-The-Winter-SoldierProduction has begun on Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. And to celebrate the fact that the cameras are now officially rolling, the studio has debuted the first image from the set, giving us a brilliant look at Chris Evans reprising his role as Steve Rogers / Captain America.

Hitting in April 2014, the sequel to the 2011 original blockbuster will be third film in Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following after Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World this year.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

Evans is joined by another awesome cast, led by Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Robert Redford, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, and Maximiliano Hernández.

Brothers Anthony and Joe Russo (Welcome to Collinwood, Arrested Development) are at the helm for the sequel, directing from a script once more penned by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (Captain America: The First Avenger).

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set to be released in 3D on April 4th, 2014, and that release date can’t come fast enough. For now, here’s our first image from the set as production begins. This is going to be awesome.
