A couple of shortlists have emerged with possible candidates for the roles of Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse, but the movie’s director has now taken to Twitter to make the casting 100% official.

Tye Sheridan (Mud), Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones), and Alexandra Shipp (Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B) have been cast as the iconic X-Men members who were played in the original movies by James Marsden, Famke Janssen, and Halle Berry. X-Men: Apocalypse will be set in the ’80s with younger versions of each.

Hopefully the spotlight will be taken off the likes of Wolverine and Mystique for these characters to get the kind of deserved attention that many argued they didn’t receive in Singer’s first two X-Men movies.

Either way, the cast is looking more and more impressive. With Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and more all set to return alongside new addition Oscar Isaac as X-Men: Apocalypse’s titular villain, this is definitely shaping up to be one of the most exciting superhero movies of 2016!

Plot details are being kept under wraps, and whether any more fan-favourite mutants will be added to the cast remains to be seen. With production set to begin a little later this year, we hope to hear more soon.
