Skyfall’s success was both a huge relief and a substantial surprise when it was released two years ago. Sam Mendes enlisted the help of a robust cast, including new regulars Ralph Fiennes, Namoie Harris and Ben Whishaw and picked the incredible Roger Deakins as his DoP. It was a bold statement of intent – Bond was back and the very best were being sought.

And it worked. Skyfall rejuvenated Bond and there was a renewed sense of excitement this morning at the 007 stage in Pinewood where the announcement of the next Bond film took place.

Bond24 will be titled Spectre, here’s the logo:

Spectre Title Reveal

Aston Martin DB10

More will be added as we get them.

Sam Mendes also unveiled the new car – the Aston Martin DB10.

The new members of the cast include Monica Bellucci and Léa Seydoux, Andrew Scott as one of the Whitehall brigade, and as rumoured – Christoph Waltz joins the cast. Guardians of the Galaxy man David Bautista is also on board.

Interesting Waltz, said to be playing Blofeld, but the official press release has his character’s name as Oberhauser, who is a character in the Bond world – The James Bond Wiki has the following: ‘Hannes Oberhauser was an Austrian climbing and skiing instructor who taught Bond while he was on term breaks while attending Fettes College. He formed a very strong paternal relationship with James, to such an extent that he referred to him as his second father. One day he mysteriously disappeared.’

This fits in very nicely with the familial themes of Skyfall, and should provide a solid foundation for all the shooting and driving fast.

This was Sir Roger Moore’s subtle response.

Here’s the official synopsis:

A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation.

While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.

SPECTRE to those in the know is Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion, they really lucked out with that acronym eh?

This is a developing story and more information will be available as the announcement goes on.
