Former WWE Superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has starred in all types of movies, but Moana might be the most unique to date. The Disney Animation movie is being developed by The Little Mermaid team of Ron Clements and John Musker, and the musical comedy is set in the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania.

The title role has not been cast as of yet, but it focuses on Moana, a born navigator who searches for a fabled island. Her journey sees her team-up with legendary demi-god Maui as they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and more.

Maui is the role that The Rock will take on in the CGI adventure which is currently set to be released in 2016.

Could it be the next Frozen? Who knows, but no one expected that movie to take off the way it did last year!

“It’s very special to me because of my culture,” Johnson says of taking on the role of Maui. “I am half-Black and half-Samoan, which is the Polynesian side of culture. I am very fortunate to have such rich cultures in my DNA. And this will be the first time to present a story like this, with Polynesian culture and folklore. And no one does it better than Disney Animation. It’s going to be serious singing, but we’ll make it big and fun and entertaining. I want to come in and hit a home run. It’s time to rock the world with my pipes.”
