You may remember back in 2010 an alien invasion movie named Skyline hit cinemas across the globe. The marketing for the film was exception with beautiful blue neon lights rising from to the sky as aliens seemingly sucked our planet of all the nutrients it needed? Remember?

You may also remember that the film was complete rubbish! It felt claustrophobic, dull and un-engaging. In fact at the time, I felt so strongly about it that I wrote a piece (which I’d never normally do) ripping the movie to pieces. The post may as well have been called ‘Why I hated Skyline’. I haven’t seen the movie since and in those seven years the memory of why i hated it so much has faded which can only be a good thing. I do seem to remember a moment where and F-22 fighter plane rolls over a person which I think summed up everything you need to know about that movie. The fact we are stuck in a flat for three quarters of the film, finally leave said flat only to return again frustrated the heck out of me….. Anywaaaaay!

Skyline Movie
Skyline (2010)

I was welcomed to the office this morning to what Jon described as a ‘present’. I wasn’t sure what that present would be but all he offered was a YouTube link….. I clicked the link with anticipation to reveal the title BEYOND SKYLINE Movie Teaser. I shuddered!

In truth I wasn’t aware that a sequel to the 2010 movie was in the offing but turns out it’s set for release this year (and Josh wrote a story about it a couple of years ago). What surprised me even more was that the trailer looked pretty good! Then to top it all off, the final shot shows The Raid star Iko Uwais as one of those in the movie. Slowly I began to wonder if there was hope for a second Skyline movie. Don’t get me wrong, I was sucked in before so I’m more wary this time but the trailer for Beyond Skyline is rather more engaging and interesting than the entire Skyline feature film.

Beyond Skyline First Posters and Images

Beyond Skyline is written and directed by Liam O’Donnell (one of the co-writers on the original film) and joining Uwais are Frank Grillo, Bojana Novakovic, Jonny Weston and Pamelyn Chee.

Time will tell but for now, here’s the first footage from the Beyond Skyline. Let’s just hope the entire movie isn’t filmed in that same hut in the jungle for the entire piece!

Do let us know what you think in the comments below and also do let us know if you loved Skyline. I promise not to judge!
