We ran an article last week on Battle: Los Angeles, an alien invasion film that is apparently going to be more in the style of Black Hawk Down than Independence Day. A Marine Staff-Sergeant (played by The Dark Knight’s Aaron Eckhart) will lead a team of unseasoned marines onto the streets of LA, to meet the alien invasion head-on.

The title of this post is perhaps a little disingenuous, as Sony Pictures have now released a three-second clip of footage from the film. Yes, that’s right, three seconds. Frankly, they might just as well have released some more stills, or waited until they could muster up a decent teaser trailer, but such is the decision of the powers that be at Sony Pictures.

Inevitably, it is very difficult to glean much from the clip. There’s a military helicopter, what looks like an exploding, plummeting alien craft and a bit of machine gun fire. It certainly seems to possess that Black Hawk Down aesthetic, but it is far too early to tell what sort of quality the film might have. The film is due out March 2011, so Sony don’t seem to be targeting a big tent-pole release at the height of summer. We’ll bring you more news and (hopefully) a decent trailer as we get it. For now, see the clip below, with thanks to MichelleRodriguezHD for uploading it to YouTube. You can also check out the site at Sony Pictures here for more teases about the film.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
