Earlier this year, the directing duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street) were officially announced as the helmers of the first ever feature length LEGO movie for Warner Bros.
As you can expect, the news came as an awesome surprise.
And now things have just got more awesome.
Variety report that not only has the film now been given a name – LEGO: The Piece of Resistance – but casting is also underway, with the helmers courting their Jump Street star, Channing Tatum, to voice the role of Superman. If all goes well, he’ll be joining Will Arnett (Arrested Development) as the voice of Batman, and Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation) as a regular LEGO figure.
“Pratt will play Emmet, an ordinary, law-abiding, Lego mini-figure who is mistaken for the most extraordinary MasterBuilder. He’s drafted into a fellowship of strangers on a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the universe together.”
LEGO: The Piece of Resistance is due to be released at the tail-end of Feburary, 2014. With the studio announcing its setting of Gangster Squad’s Will Beall to write the Justice League movie earlier this month, we could be looking at seeing Batman and Superman uniting on the big screen more than once in years to come – things look to be falling into place nicely.
