With the feral, naked pensioner glimpsed in Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale undertaking bad santa duties this year, it looks as though Billy Bob Thornton’s original seasonal grouch might soon return to show those quirky Finnish how it’s done miserably.

While discussing the upcoming Faster, and his plans to direct Jayne Mansfield’s Car – a screenplay he himself has written – with Collider, Thornton revealed that he was game for a reprisal of the cult favourite character.

“There’s been talk of making a sequel to it, which I actually would like to do.”

With this Christmas proving notable for its lack of cinematic festive cheer – just because there is snow in Narnia doesn’t make its threequal a Christmas film – we can only hope that Thornton’s Willy returns to his trademark thieving ways sooner rather than later. There simply isn’t enough Billy Bob Thornton onscreen at the moment.
