Anna Karenina quad posterThings had been fairly quiet on the Anna Karenina front for some time, and this week has seen a brilliant influx for those of us eagerly anticipating the adaptation.

Wednesday saw the release of the lovely first trailer and poster, promising a beautiful take on Leo Tolstoy’s original novel, with Keira Knightley looking fantastic in the lead.

And now a second beautiful poster has made its way online, similar to the first one we saw this week, but now in a quad poster form.

The scene is largely the same, but you’ll notice that the backdrop here now reads ‘ANNA’, rather than her initials, ‘AK’; and in the background are visible moments from the film – a duel at the far right, for example.

“The third collaboration of Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley with director Joe Wright, following the award-winning box office successes “Pride & Prejudice” and “Atonement,” is the epic love story “Anna Karenina,” adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (“Shakespeare in Love”). The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna (Ms. Knightley) questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.”

Starring alongside Knightley will be an impressive cast headed up by Aaron Johnson, Jude Law, Matthew Macfadyen, Kelly Macdonald, Emily Watson, Domhnall Gleeson, Holliday Grainger, and Olivia Williams.

With Joe Wright (Atonement) behind the camera, and the Oscar-winning writer Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love) penning the script, the film promises to be quite possibly the finest film coming out of the UK this year, and we could well be in for an awards campaign come Oscar season at the end of the year.

Anna Karenina will be released in the UK on 7th September, and will head across the Atlantic slightly later for a 9th November release. If you missed the trailer on Wednesday, be sure to click here to watch it; and if you didn’t, then watch it again. As usual with this lovely second poster, you can click to enlarge.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
