Having just debuted the first poster for Joe Wright’s adaptation of Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy’s classic 19th century novel, the first trailer has now premiered online and is every bit as beautiful as you’d expect it to be.

Starring Keira Knightley in the eponymous lead, the film features an impressive cast with Jude Law, Aaron Johnson, Matthew Macfadyen, Kelly Macdonald, Emily Watson, Domhnall Gleeson, Holliday Grainger, and Olivia Williams supporting alongside her.

“The third collaboration of Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley with director Joe Wright, following the award-winning box office successes “Pride & Prejudice” and “Atonement,” is the epic love story “Anna Karenina,” adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (“Shakespeare in Love”). The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna (Ms. Knightley) questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.”

Tom Stoppard, the fantastic Oscar-winning writer of Shakespeare in Love, is the one behind the words, penning the script for Wright’s direction.

Anna Karenina will be released in the UK on 7th September, before going to the US a little later on 9th November for a limited release. The later US date perhaps suggests that an awards campaign will be in the works, which wouldn’t be at all surprising given all the talent involved. Here’s the first trailer to give you something to look forward to.
