An animated ‘Transformers’ prequel has been set at Paramount Pictures and EOne with ‘Toy Story 4’ helmer Josh Cooley set to direct.

The project is currently untitled and a plotline hasn’t been forthcoming.

Andrew and Gabriel Ferrari have penned the script which sees Paramount Animation and EOne in the driving seat to develop and produce. Likely producers include Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian.

Back in 2017, Hasbro announced its planning for an animated feature franchise starting with an origin story taking us right back to the beginning of their creation and will fall firmly within the Live-action universe. It was also revealed that following the release of the first into cinemas, a new Transformers animation feature will be released every year until the foreseeable future.

The animation will be the franchises seventh offering which all began in 2007 with Michael Bay at the helm. Bay went on to direct another four of the films with his last being ‘Transformers: The Last Knight‘. In 2018, Travis Knight took the reigns on the prequel spin-off ‘Bumblebee’ which featured Hailee Steinfeld.

Cooley won the hearts of Toy Story fans and The Academy Awards with ‘Toy Story 4’. He received an Oscar in the animated feature category for the animation along with Jonas Rivera and Mark Nielsen in February. Previously, he was also nominated for the original screenplay Oscar for 2015’s ‘Inside Out.’
