The Death of Stalin actress, Andrea Riseborough, is to join Alien: Covenant’s Demián Bichir in Sony Pictures’ reboot of the 2004 horror, The Grudge.

The project, which is due to start filming in may sets The Eyes of My Mother director, Nicolas Pesce, to direct and write the screenplay. Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce for Ghost House, with Nathan Kahane and Erin Westerman executive producing for Good Universe alongside Schuyler Weiss, Roy Lee, and Doug Davison.

The 2004 version – which was directed by Takashi Shimizu, told the story of Matthew Williams (William Mapother), his wife, Jennifer (Clea DuVall), and mother, Emma (Grace Zabriskie), are Americans making a new life in Tokyo. Together they move into a house that has been the site of supernatural occurrences in the past, and it isn’t long before their new home begins terrorizing the Williams family as well. The house, as it turns out, is the site of a curse that lingers in a specific place and claims the lives of anyone that comes near.

The film, which also starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, was is told through a non-linear sequence of events, and includes several intersecting subplots. It became a box-office success, making over $187 million against a $10 million budget.

Riseborough’s upcoming projects include the Amazon series “Zero Zero Zero. Bichir is also due to star in The Grand Hotel, which he will produce alongside co-star Eva Longoria.
