A-Hijacking-UK-Quad-PosterTobias Lindholm’s A Hijacking has spent much of the past few months on the festival circuit, following its Venice debut last year. And it has been earning widespread critical acclaim along the way.

We saw a powerful UK trailer surface back in March. And with the film arriving in UK cinemas this Friday, we’ve got an exclusive new clip to share highlighting the intensity and the high-level stakes of this masterful thriller.

The cargo ship MV Rozen is heading for harbour when it is hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean. Amongst the men on board are the ship’s cook Mikkel (Pilou Asbæk) and the engineer Jan (Roland Møller), who along with the rest of the seamen are taken hostage in a cynical game of life and death. With the demand for a ransom of millions of dollars a psychological drama unfolds between the CEO of the shipping company (Søren Malling) and the Somali pirates.

Pilou Asbæk (Borgen) and Søren Malling (Borgen) take the lead here, starring alongside Dar Salim (Game of Thrones) and Roland Møller (R: Hit First, Hit Hardest).

Having been busy working on the likes of the acclaimed Borgen and Thomas Vinterberg’s The Hunt, Lindholm returns behind the camera here for his sophomore feature. And he’s directing from his own script once more, following his 2010 debut, R: Hit First, Hit Hardest.

The power of the realism of the film has been amongst the many things noted in early reviews, and interestingly, the negotiator seen in this new clip below is in fact a real-life hostage negotiator.

We recently had a chance to sit down with Asbæk to discuss the film, and we’ll have that interview up a little later on today.

A Hijacking will be released in UK cinemas this Friday, 10th May, with its US release date following slightly later, set for June 14th. For now, here’s our exclusive new clip from the film. Be sure to go and see it when it lands in theatres at the end of the week.
