Drafthouse Films is also launching a simultaneous theatrical and VOD release, taking a similar direction to the unique multi-platform release we saw here last year.

With its US release right around the corner, Drafthouse has released a new trailer teasing just some of the chaos that ensues in Wheatley’s latest, along with an appropriately psychedelic poster designed by Jay Shaw to match. And in case you needed any more persuading, Martin Scorsese himself is quoted as a fan of the film.

England: 1648 AD. A small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field. They are captured by two men: O’Neil and Cutler. O’Neil (Michael Smiley), an alchemist, forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field. Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.

A Field In England is a psychedelic trip into magic and madness from Ben Wheatley – award-winning director of Down Terrace, Kill List and Sightseers.

Michael Smiley (Kill List) takes the lead, alongside Peter Ferdinando (Tony), Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen), Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), Richard Glover (Sightseers), and Ryan Pope (Ideal).

Wheatley directs from a script he co-wrote with Amy Jump (Kill List), with past collaborators Claire Jones and Andrew Starke (Kill List, Sightseers) producing.

Among his many upcoming projects, the ever-prolific Wheatley is helming the first two episodes in the new season of Doctor Who, and is expected to shoot his adaptation of J.G. Ballard’s High-Rise before the year’s end.

A Field in England will be released in cinemas and on VOD on February 7th in the US, and is now available on DVD/Blu-ray here in the UK.
