Ruby SparksThe Dark Knight Rises isn’t the only film heading into theatres today, with Fox Searchlight giving anticipated indie comedy/drama Ruby Sparks a limited release out in the States.

Co-directors of Little Miss Sunshine, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, return behind the camera once more to bring us what promises to a charming film, and after seeing five new images last week, we’ve got another three to share with you as it sees its release today, including a shot of co-director Faris on set.

“Calvin (Paul Dano) is a young novelist who achieved phenomenal success early in his career but is now struggling with his writing – as well as his romantic life. Finally, he makes a breakthrough and creates a character named Ruby who inspires him. When Calvin finds Ruby (Zoe Kazan), in the flesh, sitting on his couch about a week later, he is completely flabbergasted that his words have turned into a living, breathing person.”

Rising young star Zoe Kazan (Happythankyoumoreplease) wrote the screenplay herself, and she and Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine) star in the lead, with excellent support in the form of Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development), Annette Bening (American Beauty),  Steve Coogan (a.k.a. Alan Partridge), and Antonio Banderas (The Skin I Live In).

Ruby Sparks, previously titled He Loves Me, will be released in the US today, and will come to our shores in the UK later this year on 12th October. It’s not all that often we get to see US indie films like these in our cinemas, so we’ll definitely have to take advantage this autumn. I can’t wait. As usual with these new images, you can click to enlarge. And in case you missed it, I’ve added the trailer beneath. Enjoy.
