Denzel-Washington-and-Mark-Wahlberg-in-2-GunsHitting theatres this summer, 2 Guns will see two of the biggest stars in Hollywood come together for what promises to be one of the year’s best action/crime blockbusters.

Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington are front and centre here, and with the film’s August US release date on the horizon, Universal have given us the first image to enjoy, via JoBlo.

“Adapted from the graphic novel of the same name, 2 GUNS is a pulp story about a man named Trench who has targeted a local bank to rob and asked another thief named Steadman in on the job. Trench figures it’s a great way to score – considering it’s a cover for mob money. They’ll be thieves ripping off thieves. But what Steadman doesn’t know is that Trench is a DEA agent. And what Trench doesn’t know is that Steadman’s got his own secret and isn’t who he appears to be…”

Starring alongside Wahlberg and Washington will be Paula Patton, James Marsden, Bill Paxton, Edward James Olmos, Robert John Burke, and Alexandria Deberry, making for a pretty great line-up.

Baltasar Kormákur (Contraband) is behind the camera, directing from a script by Blake Masters (Brotherhood). Masters is making his feature debut, adapting the original graphic novel by Steven Grant.

The film was originally to see David O. Russell take the helm, but he ultimately exited the project to focus on Silver Linings Playbook – which has of course since become a prominent player in the current awards season. And after Wahlberg signed on to the project back in August of 2011, his Contraband director, Kormákur, boarded the film in Russell’s place.

2 Guns will be released in the US on 16th August, and the odds are good that it will be one of the biggest films of the season. No word yet on a UK release date, but we’ll hopefully be seeing it at the end of the summer too. For now, here’s our first official look at Wahlberg and Washington. And hopefully we’ll have a trailer for you soon.
