10. Mandarin (Iron Man 3)
Ok, so enough time has passed for us to be able to talk about the big twist in Iron Man 3, right? In a genius move, Marvel Studios managed to trick fans into thinking they were getting The Mandarin, only to reveal that…well, he was an over-the-top actor called Trevor! Needless to say, this did NOT sit well with a lot of comic book readers who were hoping to see the classic villain and his alien powered magic rings, but it was still an undeniably clever and bold creative decision.
As this version of The Mandarin is used by the true “Marndarin” as a political tool, it’s fitting that his costume is influenced by several different cultures, many of which are associated with terrorism. A nice touch was including a version of Captain America’s shield in the form of a tattoo on the back of his neck, only for the star to be replaced with the symbol for Anarchists!
