Thanks to the success of Marvel Studios, shared universes are all the rage these days, and now Paramount and Hasbro are creating one which will revolve around the world of G.I. Joe.

The characters from that franchise will be joining up with those from the Micronauts, Visionairies, M.A.S.K. and ROM brands, and the plan apparently is to create a new universe which will be made up of interrelated characters and stories. Combining these brands could have very interesting results, though it’s worth noting that there’s no mention of the Transformers joining them. That obviously brings an end to hopes for a team up there!

Regardless, the G.I. Joe franchise could do with being shaken up a little, especially if the studio hopes to turn that into the box office force that the Transformers movies have become. The plan is to now assemble a writers room to develop these properties as Akiva Goldsman recently did with Transformers to set up a new series of movies and spinoffs.

“Paramount and Hasbro have had a longstanding relationship and we’re proud of the success we’ve enjoyed on the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises,” Brad Grey, Paramount chairman and CEO, said in announcing the deal. “We’re excited to grow our agreement and make even more movies based upon these popular and powerful Hasbro characters and their worlds.”
