As many of us expected, the new Star Wars trilogy (which kicks off on December 17th with Star Wars: The Force Awakens) will indeed continue to focus on the Skywalker clan as the original – Luke – and prequel – Anakin – trilogies did. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed the plan in a recent interview and also touched on the upcoming spinoffs too.

“The Saga films focus on the Skywalker family saga. The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six film. ‘The Force Awakens’ follows ‘Return Of The Jedi’ and continues that generational story. The Anthology films offer opportunities to explore fresh characters, new storylines and a variety of genres inside the ‘Star Wars’ Universe.”

This leaves us to wonder who the new Skywalker will be in the trilogy helmed by J.J. Abrams, Rian Johnson, and Colin Trevorrow. While Luke is no doubt going to continue to play a key role in the story (as will Darth Vader if some rumours are to be believed…), Daisy Ridley’s Rey seems like the most obvious candidate for this role, but we’ll have to wait and see!
