When we spoke to David Oyelowo about playing Martin Luther King, the British actor admitted that not coming from the same nation as the subject was beneficial to his performance. It seems the same can be said for the Canadian actress Sarah Gadon, who has been tasked with playing Her Majesty in the enchanting drama A Royal Night Out.

Set across V.E. Day in 1945, we watch on as the Queen sets off to celebrate with the nation – in a part factual/part fictional account. We spoke to Gadon about playing such a renowned figure, and getting behind the facade and discovering the human being within. She also talks about the plethora of upcoming projects she’s involved in, such as The 9th Life of Louis Drax.

A Royal Night Out is released on May 15th.
