To mark the release of The Killing of a Sacred Deer, the latest to come from the twisted mind of the excellent Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, we had the pleasure of meeting the man himself, to discuss this indelible, and irrepressibly dark endeavour.

We asked where this particular, unique idea originated from, and the joys in collaborating yet again with Colin Farrell, following their work together on The Lobster. We then went on to speak about his next film The Favourite and what we expect, tonally, of that production. Finally we asked about his future in Hollywood, and whether he envisages a return back to Greece anytime soon.

Synopsis

Dr. Steven Murphy is a renowned cardiovascular surgeon who presides over a spotless household with his wife and two children. Lurking at the margins of his idyllic suburban existence is Martin, a fatherless teen who insinuates himself into the doctor’s life in gradually unsettling ways. Soon, the full scope of Martin’s intent becomes menacingly clear when he confronts Steven with a long-forgotten transgression that will shatter his domestic bliss forever.
