The first image from The Post, the latest film from Steven Spielberg, has arrived and it’s a Justice League line up of acting talent. Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep lead the film, based on the true story of the release of The Pentagon Papers by Daniel Ellsberg in the 1970s. The release of these documents revealed the reality of the Vietnam War and was instrumental in changing the nation’s perceptions of it. It’s no great leap of imagination to understand why Spielberg chose to make this film right now.

The image gathers together many of the sterling cast members Spielberg has assembled for the film. Alongside Hanks (who plays Ben Bradlee, the editor of The Washington Post at the time) and Meryl Streep (who appears as the publisher Kay Graham) the cast includes Alison Brie, The Leftovers’ standout Carrie Coon, Arrested Development’s David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk, Tracy Letts, Sarah Paulson, Jesse Plemons, Michael Stuhlbarg and The West Wing’s Bradley Whitford.

The film is released here in the UK on the 19th of January, and in the US on the 12th of January. That is a little late for the awards season but with the holy trinity of Streep, Spielberg and Hanks this one will do pretty well…
