It’s been quite a couple of weeks for superhero-related news with Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man making his first appearance, then the casting of Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan’s next Batman film – then just a few days ago a leaked photo of Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class cast was met an unsure reaction by many.

Yesterday we had our first real look at the cast of Vaughn’s prequel with the release of three photos, and there’s now another look at our two leads, Michael Fassbender as Erik Lehnsherr and James McAvoy as Charles Xavier.

Slashfilm were phoned by the director, whose response to the leaked promo pic was undoubtedly toned down for a family audience,

I freaked out on them yesterday. I don’t know where the hell that came from. I don’t think it’s a Fox image. It’s not a pre-approved image. When I found out, I said, what the fuck is this shit, and Fox is running around trying to figure out what happened as well. I agree. It’s like a bad photoshop, which maybe it was by someone. It didn’t reflect the movie. I was shocked when I saw it. I was like ‘Jesus Christ’…

The costumes are blue and yellow as well, because fuck it, lets take it back it the original. Also, by the way, those costumes are hardly in the movie. The main costumes are like these cool 60’s James Bond…

And as an aside do check out the thoughts by the majestic Clothes of Film for further analysis of the look of the film glimpsed so far.

Then AICN’s Harry Knowles was called by Bryan Singer who gave him the teaser poster, which looks very much like this.

It doesn’t deviate from the teasers for the first three films, which can be seen below.

For what it’s worth I’ve got faith in Vaughn and his team, certainly the cast is capable of great things and there seems to be a genuine desire to get this X-Men film right.
