More big news from the world of comic-books and expanded universes as it now seems that 20th Century Fox are beginning plans to join Warner Bros, Sony and Marvel and expand and unite their Marvel properties with news that the first team-up film is on the way in the next couple of year.

Deadline is reporting that acclaimed writer/director Drew Goddard, who directed The Cabin in the Woods and lent his penmanship to such films as The Martian, Cloverfield, World War Z and the upcoming Deadpool 2, has been hired to write and direct X-Force, the first superhero mash-up at Fox. For those unfamiliar with the series, the X-Force is an “offshoot of the X-Men, X-Force takes a more militant and aggressive approach towards its enemies compared to the X-Men.”

Cable X-Force

Leading the team in the comics is Cable, played in Deadpool 2 by Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) and the actor will be reprising his role in the film, as will Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, who is also producing the film.

It’s a busy time for Fox in terms of superhero films: earlier this year, Logan closed out the Hugh Jackman/Wolverine story and took $616.2million at the worldwide box office, following the success of Deadpool, with the sequel currently in production.

In addition, two new X-Men films are in the works: Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) is directing New Mutants which stars Anya Taylor-Joy (Split) and Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), while currently filming in Vancouver is X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the new film in the franchise which Simon Kinberg is making his directorial debut.

James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, Ty Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp and Sophie Turner are returning for the film where they will take on Jessica Chastain’s villainess and is released next November.
