Die Hard 4.0 (or Live Free or Die Hard if you prefer, though why would you?) saw John McClane back on our screens to surprising but welcome success after a decade plus change away. Unlike other recently revived action franchises (I’m looking at you, Rambo), 4.0 showed there was life in the Die Hard dog still and so talks continued regarding another outing for McClane.

Recently it was announced that Noam Murro would direct instalment 5, but that now seems to not be the case, with Murro’s commitment to 300 spin-off/sequel/prequel/something causing him to back out. Skip Woods (The A-Team, Wolverine, Swordfish, Hitman – cripes) has been hard at work on the script and there is word that one John Moore (the not-actually-too-bad Behind Enemy Lines and Flight of the Phoenix) may be in line to take over in the director’s chair. Lots of up in the air-ness there then.

What may be less up in the air is the setting for the film, which is said to involve McClane and his son getting caught up in local troubles while visiting Russia. Could be interesting. Could be all sorts of things. Personally, I’m a huge fan of all things Die Hard-related and remain unashamedly and unapologetically optimistic. Other opinions are available.

Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
